Jobs Boot Camp


UCC has contracted with the employment consulting firm, The Chazin Group LLC to offer weekly Jobs Boot Camp programs every Wednesday from 10am-12pm at the South 8th Street location.  Program teaches residents how to conduct an effective job search, write compelling resumes and cover letters, research employers, interview for success, and achieve success on the job.  Talk with a UCC employee about signing up for this program.


Basic Computer Training and Software Applications


UCC offers free hands on training programs in basic Computer and Software Applications and classes are taught by certified instructors. Day and evening classes are available for select programs. UCC is offering free Computer training opportunities for low income Newark residents. Trainees will earn Basic Computer and Microsoft Office 2010. Job placement assistance will be offered after the training. New registration times will be coming soon. Contact us today to find out what is on the horizon.


Resource Center


UCC’s on site resource center offers a variety of services ranging from job readiness and placement programs to housing and medical assistance. In addition to referral services, the center also has a computer lab available to individuals in need of computer or internet access.

Housing & Development Services


Low-Income Housing


The United Community Village Development provides 36 units of affordable housing in 34 new construction single family attached townhouses and a two-story masonry building in Newark Central Ward. All of the units are affordable to households earning 50% or less than the area median income.

Homework Habitat

UCC provides homework assistance Monday – Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. For more information, call (973) 373-7801.


Emergency Services


Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is a UCC food assistance program developed to help individuals and families in need keep food on their tables. Qualified applicants will receive an allocated amount of groceries based on family composition up to twice a year.


Homeless Shelter


For those in need of temporary housing, UCC operates an emergency shelter program.  The facility houses 60 individuals for up to a 30-day period.  Residents will have access to voluntary counseling, employment and health care referral services during their stay.


Clothes Boutique

Community residents in need of clothing can visit the UCC Clothes Closet to receive donated clothing . We only accept clean, ready to wear garments from our donors. Please note that clothing articles are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Youth Programs & Mentoring


UCC has a series of programs and activities targeting at-risk-youth. The goal is to keep them off the streets and to positively engage them in the community. Senior Citizen Services


UCC offers a variety of empowerment and recreational programs for community seniors. Programs consist of group outings, financial literacy workshops, health screenings & seminars and more. Health & Wellness Programs


UCC provides a health care referral service for residents looking to receive health care assistance. UCC also hosts health care screenings, seminars and workshops at local centers throughout the year. For more information, call (973) 642-0181.


Childcare & After School


 

 

UCC Daycare Center & After School Programs were established to provide adequate year round daycare and after school care services for families in need of childcare assistance. Our certified staff provides a safe, educational and friendly environment for children ranging from 3 to 16 years of age.

 

Daycare hours are Monday through Friday from 7am to 5:30pm. Select childcare assistance programs are accepted. For more information, call (973) 621-5666.
